Don’t forget to…turn on the monitor.

As a new parent, you get so engrossed in the back to back things that get done with baby. It’s literally one thing after another. And the second baby goes to sleep, you slip out of the room and breath a sigh of relief. For those few moments, while baby is sleeping, I sometimes feel like I can really quickly enjoy pre-mommy me time. I want to squeeze in a quick tv show, or a quiet cup of tea or just some time on my laptop. All things I avoid doing when baby is awake.

Those moments are me racing against baby’s biological clock aka sleep time. There is a sense of excitement when I race down the stairs to put the water to boil, switch on the tv and power up my laptop. On a good day I’ll be able to squeeze in a full tv show (with commercials…I’m not fortunate enough to have dvr yet). Otherwise, I’ll have a half steeped pot of tea waiting for my return.

The clock ticks as I gleefully enjoy my tea, catch up on my email and approach the last segment of my favorite show. In those 20 minutes my sleep deprived body, my mommy brain and my zombie state is rejuvenated. I forget why I was so exhausted. Life is great…

Then I realize, crap…I forgot to turn on the monitor!

Update (4/5/2016):  We love our VTech Baby Monitor with two parent bases. We ended up getting another set once the twins were born. We keep one in Toddlers room, with a parent unit in our bedroom and downstairs. And we keep the twins in our room so we have a parent unit downstairs and one in the loft. Great product with the option to two-way “talk” using the parent unit which comes in handy when hubby and I are on different floors in the house.
