Hello Buy Buy Baby
Last weekend, we made our first trip to Buy Buy Baby. I thought it would be fun to just walk through and browse.
Things we looked at and what we learned –
Diaper Bags:
Luckily, I had done some online Diaper Bag browsing but it was nice to look at some and try them out. But even then, there were so many to look through! And a lot of them were so so bulky. I think I’ve already narrowed my criteria: must have a strap that I can wear across shoulders, a stable bottom so the bag stays put when it’s on the floor, neutral colors for boy or girl and for both mommy & daddy to use, ideally it can also can be worn as a backpack and enough pockets to stick things in without dealing with flaps, zippers, velcro etc.
Cribs:
Espresso, White’s and Pine finishes. Cribs that convert into full size beds. Traditional cribs and oval shaped cribs. Bassinets and cradles. Some with attached changing tables others with a la carte offerings of changing tables, armoirs, chests, hampers and other nursery furniture. I haven’t quite figured out what I want. Part of me wants a single solution so we don’t have to keep investing in furniture. The other part of me wants a minimalist approach. Is sleeping on the floor an option? Seems a lot safer than worrying about cribs. Lots to think about.
Car seats & Strollers:
This was the most overwhelming section. There were so many different price ranges, so many different styles and most importantly they all did different things. The conclusion was I believe we want a car seat that snaps into a stroller for sure and where the base remains in the car (I think all the new ones have this). And we definitely learned that we need a light weight stroller. I was having trouble lifting some of the collapsed strollers. It is really helpful to try out the various ones in the stores and see which one fits your body type and overall needs. We have a bit of homework to do in this department in terms of looking up brands, recalls and consumer reviews.
It’s hard to believe for such a little person there are SOOOO many things you can end up buying. I have to remind myself that where we were born and raised for the first few years of our lives our parents had the minimalistic approach and hey…we survived. Hopefully, we can also try to take that path as we start investing in stuff for baby.
